Iona College has three student-run media organizations.
WICR, the campus radio station, allows students to get air-time and get experience being on the air.
ICTV, the campus TV station, allows students to use the studio and participate in the bi-weekly show, “Inside Iona.” This gives students time in both behind-the-scenes work as well as on camera presence.
Finally, “The Ionian”, Iona’s newspaper, allows students to publish their own work in the bi-weekly issues. Students in all majors, not just mass communications are always welcome to join. Any of these look impressive on a resume.
Below you will find some photos of each organization and a little description about each.
Iona College has four state-of-the-art microphones that students can use. The sound board and other equipment was donated a few years back to the college.
Sophomore Kate Adriani gets content ready for her before her show. WICR has won awards in the past for students’ outstanding performance on their shows. Students develop a wide range of knowledge through the use of the radio station and the equipment.
In the fall of 2015, the Iona College Mass Communications Dept. purchased a new set for its studio in the Murphy Center. This allows students to get experience sitting at an actual news desk.
“Inside Iona” is all student -produced, from the hosting to the post production. The hosts even get to use a Telepromter for the shows. Essential camera work and editing skills are a must.
Juniors Alyson Gannon and Josephine Nguyen getting ready to host the “entertainment spotlight” segment of “Inside Iona.” ICTV produces a bi-weekly show, “Inside Iona” filled with all sorts of content that has been happening on campus.
“Inside Iona” also produces its own scripts for the hosts. The scripts are then loaded in the telepromter for the hosts to read.
The TV studio has a series of equipment that is used to produce any show, including “Inside Iona.” Everything from the tri-caster, soundboard, cameras and duel monitors are all present in the studio setting.
Iona College also has its very own student-run newspaper. The paper comes out bi-weekly and has a wide variety of news stories, including features and sports.
